for newborn session

What is your style of photography?

Newborn photography focuses on capturing posed portraits using softly coloured, classic styled props to ensure your portraits remain timeless over the years. Janice specializes in newborn photography, and she is the only photographer in the studio. This means you can expect safety, quality and consistency.

Are you currently up to date with whooping cough vaccination?

For your peace of mind Janice’s whooping cough vaccination is up to date, and her latest flu shot on April 2020.

Do you have insurance?

You can be rest assured that my business is registered and I have public liability insurance.

How do I prepare for the newborn session?

Janice will provide you a newborn session preparation guide for you to read before the session.

How do you use props to aid newborn photography?

Janice will never put a baby in danger in order to capture a nice image. There are many beautiful images that are created using safe practices rather than putting a baby in a risky position. These are called composite images with digital background and they are made up of 2 or more images combined in photoshop.

Janice also loves to shop around for beautiful props for newborn babies, most of her props are internationally resourced and exclusively owned. Janice washes baby wraps, blanket and clothes used in the session for every single time to make sure they are nice and clean for the next session.

For in- home session, Janice will bring all the props, including beanbag, basket or bowl, wraps and blankets, newborn outfit and headbands.

How many years have they been working as a newborn photographer?

Having 3 years experience in working with newborns allows Janice to be able to pick up on your baby’s cues and use different soothing techniques to suit your baby. Janice’s new studio opened on Feb 2020 and from that time, she offers both in-home (visit your home) and professional studio newborn photography.

Have they undertaken any newborn specific posing training including baby safety?

Janice have completed hands-on mentoring with one of the Melbourne’s top newborn photographers - Alana Taylor who teach safe posing and handling of babies. Janice would never put a baby at risk and always use a spotter when needed or digital compositing to achieve certain photos safely as explained below.

Should I choose studio session or in-home session?

It is totally up to you. In my studio, you have access to more setups and props, and you will have the professional lightning for the whole session. In-home session is favoured by parents with lots of children who don’t want to bother about travelling. It is also liked by new mums who had caesarean session and feels too weak to travel at baby’s very first week.

Will you use flash during the session?

In the studio, Janice will use soft light box that professionally designed for newborn photography. For in home session, Janice will use both natural light and an external flash on the camera. The flash will bounce the light to the ceiling instead of pointing directly to baby’s eyes. It is 100% safe for baby to take newborn photos.

Can parents and siblings be part of the session?

The arrival of a newborn is such a special time for all family members and I think it is so important to document this special time. I will highly recommend to have a newborn family session even if you are not so confident, you will never regret to have a photo with your little newborn baby.

Can I bring my baby if he/she has bad skin conditions?

Janice has invested time in developing advanced post-processing skills allowing her to undertake specialized newborn skin retouching and produce a custom signature look.  She takes time to correct common newborn skin conditions post-process including baby acne, newborn skin flakes, uneven skin tones, jaundice and area's where the skin is highly saturated in reds and magenta.
